Oman launches qualification process for 280 MW Al Kamil solar project

The project is part of Oman’s broader strategy to diversify its energy sources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and meet its ambitious net-zero target by 2050.

Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) has launched the qualification process for the Al Kamil Wal Wafi Solar Independent Power Project (IPP).

The issuance of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) document invites developers to participate in the development of the 280 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility, set to be one of the largest solar plants in the Sultanate.

The project is part of Oman’s broader strategy to diversify its energy sources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and meet its ambitious net-zero target by 2050.

The Al Kamil Solar IPP, located in the Al Kamil Wal Wafi area, is the fourth such solar project under development by PWP in collaboration with private sector partners.

The project aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040, which seeks to integrate renewable energy into the national grid as a core element of sustainable economic growth.

By increasing the share of clean energy in its power generation mix, Oman aims to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance energy security.

Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP), the body responsible for procuring new power and water capacity in Oman, is tasked with overseeing the project’s development, in line with the country’s regulatory framework for the privatization of the electricity and water sectors.

For more details on the RFQ process and project timeline, interested parties can access the official documentation provided by PWP.
