Saudi Arabia’s sixth round of renewable energy projects under its National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP) has attracted global giants, with Masdar, EDF Renouvelables, TotalEnergies, and Jinko Power among those shortlisted.
The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) unveiled the prequalified developers for the tender, which aims to add 4,500 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind capacity to the Kingdom’s energy mix.
Key Projects in the Tender
The round comprises four solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects totaling 3,000 MW and one wind IPP project of 1,500 MW. The solar projects include:
- Najran Solar PV IPP: 1,400 MW (Najran Province)
- Samtah Solar PV IPP: 600 MW (Jizan Province)
- Ad Darb Solar PV IPP: 600 MW (Jizan Province)
- As Sufun Solar PV IPP: 400 MW (Hail Province)
For the 1,500 MW Dawadmi Wind IPP in Riyadh Province, developers will compete to establish one of the largest wind energy facilities in the region.
Prequalified Developers
Among the notable shortlisted developers are major consortiums and standalone firms:
- Masdar partnered with JERA NEX for solar and Al Jomaih Energy for wind
- EDF Renouvelables in partnerships with Jinko Power and other global leaders
- TotalEnergies Renewables paired with Nareva Holding for the wind tender
- Jinko Power competing independently and through strategic alliances
Other key participants include Marubeni Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., and Alfanar Company.
Momentum in Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Sector
This announcement follows SPPC’s recent signing of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for 9.2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power projects, underscoring the Kingdom’s rapid strides in clean energy.
