Samsung C&T secures $2.84 Billion massive contract for Qatar’s Facility E IWPP project

The $2.84 billion contract was awarded by Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.

South Korea’s Samsung C&T has announced receiving a letter of award for the construction of the Facility E Independent Water and Power Production (IWPP) Project in Qatar.

The $2.84 billion contract was awarded by Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.

The project is set to reshape Qatar’s energy and water infrastructure, combining advanced power generation and desalination technologies.

Located approximately 25 kilometers south of Doha in the Ras Abu Fontas area, the project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art natural gas-fired power plant with a capacity of 2,400 megawatts (MW).

Alongside the power plant, the facility will feature a seawater desalination plant capable of producing 110 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD), equivalent to 495,000 tons of water daily.

The Facility E project will be developed on the site of a former power plant as part of Qatar’s efforts to modernise its infrastructure to meet rising energy and water demands while maintaining environmental sustainability.

Qatar is taking bold steps to enhance its energy and water production capacities to support the country’s growing population and industries.

Further details on project timelines and execution strategies are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
