Egypt’s Madkour group secures landmark wind power contract in Oman

Madkour will construct a key grid station that will facilitate power evacuation from a forthcoming wind farm at Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate

Egypt’s Madkour Group has announced its entry into Oman’s energy sector after being awarded a contract to construct a key grid station that will facilitate power evacuation from a forthcoming wind farm at Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate.

The project, commissioned by Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), signifies Madkour’s debut in Oman’s renewable infrastructure landscape.

The New Cairo-based developer is set to establish a 132kV grid station tied to the wind farm, which will boast a generation capacity between 100-200 megawatts. The contract also includes the development of a 132kV overhead line linking the new station to the Al Jawabi substation, bolstering Oman’s national grid.

“This strategic project forms part of the broader development of the Jaalan Bani Bu Ali wind farm and underscores Madkour’s commitment to Oman Vision 2040. It aligns with Oman’s goals to expand renewable energy and support its climate ambitions,” Madkour Group said in a statement.

The Jaalan Bani Bu Ali wind project is one of five major wind-based Independent Power Projects (IPPs) under active procurement by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP), the country’s sole power and water procurer.

The other projects, expected to launch between Q2 and Q4 of 2027, include Duqm Wind IPP (234-270 MW), Mahout Wind I IPP (342-400 MW), Dhofar Wind II IPP (114-132 MW), and Sadah Wind IPP (81-99 MW), distributed across strategic locations including Ras Madrakah, Mahout, Shaleem, and Sadah in Oman.

Nama PWP, which qualified 11 bidders in September after an extensive evaluation process, expects to award the IPP contracts in the first half of next year. These projects reflect Oman’s accelerated shift towards renewable energy as part of its long-term vision for a sustainable, diversified economy.
