Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is advancing the expansion of the second phase of the Green Data Centre operated by Moro Hub, its digital arm.
The centre, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest solar-powered data centre.
The solar-powered facility was inaugurated in 2023 by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim for 100% clean energy production by mid-century.
DEWA CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, alongside senior executives, reviewed progress on the centre, which integrates renewable energy with advanced digital technologies.
Designed to be developed in 10 phases, the centre will ultimately achieve a capacity of 100 megawatts, covering 100,000 square metres.
The centre is fully powered by solar energy and supports digital transformation, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and Internet of Things (IoT) services while being certified “Tier-III” by the Uptime Institute.
“The Green Data Centre represents a milestone in sustainable ICT infrastructure,” said Al Tayer, highlighting its role in providing carbon-neutral solutions and fostering innovation in AI and solar energy technologies.
The centre’s strategic location within the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar facility, supports Dubai’s renewable energy ambitions.
The solar park forms the backbone of the UAE’s push toward achieving net-zero emissions, showcasing cutting-edge solar and energy storage systems.
The Green Data Centre is an attraction for global hyper-scalers seeking carbon-free computing by providing scalable solutions for organisations striving to reduce carbon footprints.
